Nine-year-old rescued from borewell

AMARAVATI: A nine-year-old boy was rescued from a defunct open borewell in Eluru district on Wednesday. He was recused by locals after an excruciating effort for three hours.

The boy, Jashwanth, was playing in his locality at Dwaraka Tirumala mandal at midnight when he fell into an unused 400-ft borewell. He was stuck at a depth of 30 ft underground.

The boy's parents, after searching around the locality, found their missing child inside the borewell.

Locals tried to pull the boy out but their efforts were in vain. A local youth named Suresh tied a rope around himself and went into the borewell and pulled the boy up.

The locals heaved a sigh of relief as the boy was rescued in a healthy and unhurt state.

The Bhimadolu fire brigade personnel reached the spot and inspected the physical condition of the boy.

It's unusual that kids who fall in open borewells to be rescued unhurt. This one is one of those rarest of the rare incidents where the boy could be safely brought out.

All must have seen many news stories of parallel holes being dug to reach those stranded inside such capillary borewell holes, but to no avail.
