Vamsadhara, Nagavali in spate; heavy inflows to Gotta, Thotapalli Barrages
A second flood warning was also issued at the Gotta barrage.
SRIKAKULAM: River Vamsadhara is swelling at the Gotta barrage due to huge inflows reaching it following a heavy rain in Srikakulam district. The Gotta barrage received an inflow of 82,000 cusecs even as the water level touched 35.70 metres. A similar situation prevails at the Thotapalli barrage on river Nagavali. The barrage received an inflow of 50,000 cusecs while the water level rose to 103.78 m on Tuesday. A second flood warning was also issued at the Gotta barrage.
Transport in Gulumuru, Somarajapuram, Madhanapuram and Penugotivada villages in Kotturu mandal were cut off after a flash flood. The people of Punugoti, Madanapuram, Gunadalavalasa and a few other villages were facing difficulties due to stagnated flood water which blocked roads and disrupted daily life.
The deluge also left the Rythu Bharosa Kendram at Kalivaram completely submerged. The villagers complained that the authorities ignored their requests of setting up groynes across the boundaries of villages where the major rivers Nagavalli and Vamsadhara flowed.
The collector of Parvathipuram-Manyam set up a control room in the district collector's office and directed officials to provide immediate help to the flood victims.
