ONGOLE: Tension gripped Singarayakonda of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh following the murder of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Kumalleti Ravi Teja on Thursday night. Angry YSRCP activists and leaders barged into the local police station and set a lorry ablaze on Friday.

Policemen were deployed in large numbers to ensure that the situation did not spiral out of control, with the YSRCP activists and leaders descending on the incident spot in hordes and launching into a protest. With tempers running high, senior police authorities were monitoring the situation and were taking steps to ensure that no untoward incidents took place.

Ravi Teja, a YSRCP leader from Mulguntapadu village, was killed after being run over by a truck, allegedly by his rivals with whom he had disputes. The incident happened when he was on his way to Kanumalla around 8:30 pm on Thursday night. Upon receiving the information, the police seized the lorry and shifted it to the police station.

Meanwhile, his death led to massive protests posing a law and order problem for the police in Singarayakonda. The protestors reportedly jumped over the walls of the police station and set the lorry on fire. They also set fire to a water kiosk located opposite the police station.
