8-week OTT rule becomes a joke in reality
TFCC along with ATFPG decided to stop the film shootings for a month to chalk out solutions for the underwhelming performances of movies in theatres post-COVID-19
HYDERABAD: A few months ago, The Film Chamber Of Commerce (TFCC) along with the Active Telugu Film Producers Guild (ATFPG) decided to stop the film shootings for a month to chalk out solutions for the underwhelming performances of movies in theatres post-COVID-19 pandemic.
After forming committees and brainstorming for a few days, the big wigs of the industry have passed some key points that can help the theatrical run of films. One of those points is the 8-week window between theatrical and OTT releases.
It was ordered that every film should be released on OTT platforms only eight weeks after its theatrical released. It was said that all producers must strictly adhere to this rule. But no one is sticking to this rule in reality. If we take recent films, Swathi Muthyam premiered on OTT three weeks after its theatrical release. The Ghost and Ori Devuda were released on OTT within four weeks of their respective theatrical release.
These movies are made by producers who made these rules. If they won't stick to their rules, how will other producers stick to them? We have to see if TFCC and ATFPG have an answer to this.
