Of late, Bollywood is getting severely affected by the Boycott trend. A section of netizens is calling to boycott a few films which are made by 'supposedly' anti-national or anti-religious filmmakers, actors or producers.
It all started with Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha. People trended #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha on social media as Aamir made some 'anti-national' comments a few years ago. As a result, the film failed to get good openings at the box office and eventually, it ended up as a disaster at the box office.
Later, people trended #BoycottLiger as it is made by Karan Johar, who is supposedly the flag-bearer of nepotism. Even this film was also got affected by this trend, especially in North India.
The Boycott gang's next target was Brahmastra. They asked people not to watch this film as it is produced by Karan Johar and features Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, who supposedly made 'anti-national' comments in the past.
The film has hit the screens yesterday and we hear that the openings of Brahmastra were quite dull in a few areas of North India, due to the boycott trend.
On the whole, it looks like the Boycott trend is a serious threat to Bollywood these days and no film seems to get away from it.
