Celebrities are not interested in 'Twitter' recognition
Micro-blogging site Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, started removing verified blue tick marks for the users who didn't subscribe to the paid model
HYDERABAD: Micro-blogging site Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, started removing verified blue tick marks for the users who didn't subscribe to the paid model. It was informed that blue-tick will now be available on the subscription model. People who pay for it will only be able to get the tick mark.
Several Indian film celebrities, sportspeople, and politicians started losing their blue-tick marks in the last few days. Some big names include Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Virat Kohli, Alia Bhatt, Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi.
Not just Indian celebrities but also international celebrities like Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Pope Francis, and even former US President Donald Trump have also lost their blue ticks.
Elon Musk implemented this new rule to generate revenue for Twitter. He sees it as a significant factor for Twitter's financial growth in the future.
Whatsoever, the celebrities seem to be disinterested in paying for the blue tick. Earlier, it used to be a mark of recognition. But, when the micro-blogging site is asking for money, celebrities now believe anyone can get a blue tick, and there is nothing extraordinary about getting verified.
In reality, celebrities might need this special badge because there is a chance that some netizens could misuse their name and fame. Only in this case should they go for this blue tick to put a check to fraud.
People who want to subscribe for the blue-tick mark have to pay around ₹650 per month on the web and ₹900 on the mobile app (iOS and Android).
