HYDERABAD: The 17th Additional Chief Magistrate of Nampally has delivered a significant verdict in the defamation case involving film actors Jeevitha and Rajasekhar. The court, on Tuesday, sentenced the couple to one year in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. The case pertains to allegations made by Jeevitha and Rajasekhar against the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank, claiming that the blood collected was being sold in the market.

Chiranjeevi is renowned for his philanthropic work, including providing blood to those in need through the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank. However, Jeevitha and Rajasekhar's comments in a press meeting back in 2011 had alleged otherwise, which led to a defamation suit filed by film producer Allu Aravind, who is closely associated with Chiranjeevi.

The court conducted a lengthy trial and considered media articles, including a CD containing the allegations made by the couple. After carefully examining the evidence and arguments, the court handed down the verdict on Tuesday, sentencing both Jeevitha and Rajasekhar to one year in jail and imposing a fine of Rs 5,000.

The court allowed them to challenge the verdict by approaching the district court. As a result, they were released on bail upon submitting surety bonds and paying the fine. The future outcome of the case will depend on whether Jeevitha and Rajasekhar decide to take their appeal to the district court.
