HYDERABAD: This year, Indians are hoping to win big in the Academy Awards as three different Indian films are nominated in the three different categories. While RRR's Naatu Naatu has been nominated in the Best Original Song category, The Elephant Whisperers is nominated for the Best Documentary Short and All That Breathes has been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category. Everyone is rooting for these films to win the Oscars and make India proud.
Meanwhile, here is a look at the Indians who won the Oscars in the past.
1. Bhanu Athaiya
She won the Best Costume Design award for the film Gandhi in 1982. This Richard Attenborough directorial won multiple Oscars including the Best Picture award that year.
2. Satyajit Ray
India's renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray had been awarded Honorary Award by The Academy in 1992 for his significant contribution to the field of cinema.
3. AR Rahman
Musical maestro AR Rahman won two Oscars in 2009. One for Best Original Song (Jai Ho) and another one for Best Original Music (Slumdog Millionaire).
4. Gulzar
Lyricist Gulzar jointly received the Oscar with AR Rahman for Jai Ho in the Best Original Song category.
5. Resul Pookutty
Sound designer Resul Pookutty received the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire in the Best Sound Mixing category. He received the award with a couple of others.
