HYDERABAD: India made a big noise at the 95th Academy Awards. Though we lost in the Best Documentary Feature category, The Elephant Whisperers made us proud by winning the Best Documentary Short Award. Director Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga received the award on the stage.
The Elephant Whisperers competed along with Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, The Martha Mitchell Effect and Stranger at the Gate. The Elephant Whisperers is the second Indian Documentary Short, after Period: The End of a Sentence, to win an Oscar.
The Elephant Whisperers deals with the story of a couple who raise orphaned elephants in Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu. The heartening story of the couple Bomman and Belli and their heartwarming chemistry with their baby elephant Raghu makes this story a touching one.
Three Indian films are nominated in three different categories in this year's Oscars. As of now, we won one and we lost one. We have to see if the most-anticipated RRR will also bag an Oscar and make us proud.
