Kerala Court lifts ban on Kantara's Varaharoopam

HYDERABAD: Kantara is one of the biggest hits of this year in Indian cinema. This Kannada film had a pan-India release and collected more than Rs. 300 crores at the box office. Meanwhile, it also landed up in a legal soup as popular Kerala-based musical band Thaikkudam Bridge filed a copyright infringement case against the makers of Kantara.
Thaikkudam Bridge alleged that the tune of Kantara's Varaharoopam song was copied from the band's original song Navarasam. After examining the petition, the Kerala High Court ordered the Kantara makers not to use the song on any media platform. Immediately, it was removed from all streaming platforms.
Recently, Kantara premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Even on that platform, the song was replaced with another tune in the film. Many viewers who loved Varaharoopam were disappointed by this tune. Meanwhile, the latest reports suggest that Kozhikode District Court in Kerala lifted the ban on Varaharoopam due to lack of jurisdiction.
As the ban is lifted, we have to see if the song will be added to the film on Amazon Prime Video anytime soon. Kantara was directed by Rishab Shetty. He also played the lead role in it.
