HYDERABAD: The ongoing hot trend in Telugu cinema is re-releasing of old classics on the occasion of actors' birthdays. It all started with Pokiri and Okkadu, starring Mahesh Babu.
On the occasion of Superstar Mahesh Babu's birthday this year, his fans held special shows of Okkadu and Pokiri in remastered prints. These special shows got an immense response from fans. Especially Pokiri collected a gross of more than Rs.1.3 crores through that one-day special shows. Such huge was the response.
Now, the former industry hit Gharana Mogudu is being screened on August 22, on the occasion of Megastar Chiranjeevi's birthday. Popular production house Vyjayanthi Movies stated that it will re-release another Megastar's industry hit Indra soon.
On September 2, Pawan Kalyan's Jalsa is getting re-released in remastered 4k print on the occasion of his birthday.
On the flip side, Akkineni Nageshwara Rao's unreleased 1982 film Pratibimbalu is gearing up for a release on September 20, on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The film is directed by Singeetham Sreenivasa Rao. It has to be seen how the audience receives this unreleased old film in theatres now.
Pokiri got a phenomenal response during the re-release. If Gharana Mogudu and Jalsa manage to get the same response, we may see many re-release special shows in the coming days.
