PS-1: Big Actors; Cameo Roles

Director Mani Ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 was released the other day. From the first show, the film has been receiving a mixed response, and we have to wait till the weekend gets over to know its fate at the box office.

Ponniyin Selvan features a huge star cast. There are many popular actors like Karthi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipalla, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, and Rahman in the pivotal roles.

However, none of them gets a standout role in the movie. One can also come in a single scene and make an impact on the audience. But the characters in PS-1 don't have a good runtime and neither do they create any impact on the audience.

Barring Karthi, everyone else looks like a guest actor. Vikram comes in two scenes of the first half and two scenes of the second half. Jayam Ravi enters the film only in the second half. Trisha and Aishwarya Rai are also confined to limited screen time. They got meaty roles but were not utilized properly. Thus, they won't create an impression.

At one point, people start wondering if Karthi is the real hero of the film. The likes of Trisha and Vikram, who are in a rough phase of their careers, planned to make a grand comeback with this magnum opus. Trisha left Acharya for this movie. She gave her best for the film. Vikram also worked hard for his role. But alas, it looks like Ponniyin Selvan may turn out to be an utter disappointment for them.
