'Sita birthplace' controversy in Adipurush takes a new turn with makers removing a dialogue
However, the censor board approved the film after the controversial dialogue claiming Sita as India's daughter was removed
HYDERABAD: Mayor Balen Shah of Kathmandu Metropolitan City recently announced that no Indian film would be screened in the capital territory unless the upcoming film Adipurush corrects the alleged "mistake" regarding the birthplace of Sita.
The announcement, shared on Facebook in Nepali, emphasized that the claim made in the South Indian film Adipurush, referring to Sita as the daughter of India, must be rectified to reflect the truth in both Nepal and India. A deadline of three days was given to address this issue. The Censor Board of Nepal has also withheld permission for the film for the same reason.
In the trailer of Adipurush, Sita is depicted as the daughter of India. In contrast, according to the Ramayana, Sita was born in Janakpur, Nepal, and Lord Ram came to marry her. However, the censor board approved the film after the controversial dialogue claiming Sita as India's daughter was removed. It remains to be seen if there are any other such errors in the entire film.
Adipurush features Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, Sunny Singh as Lakshman, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravan. The film was released today amidst mixed reviews from the fans and critics.
