HYDERABAD: Actor Abbas, once a beloved romantic hero in Tamil cinema, has been away from the limelight for nearly eight years. He chose to settle in New Zealand with his family, stepping away from the film industry, where he had experienced a rapid rise to fame as a heartthrob before transitioning to supporting roles. After a long gap, Abbas is back in the spotlight as he interacted with a famous film journalist from Tamilnadu.

Abbas rarely gives interviews and has stayed away from social media. But, in a recent interview, he opened up about his career and life.

During the Covid period, Abbas used Zoom calls to connect with fans, especially those struggling with thoughts of suicide. Abbas revealed that he, too, had experienced such feelings during his teenage years when he contemplated taking his own life after failing the 10th grade. The departure of his girlfriend at that time intensified those thoughts, but a profound realization stopped him.

Regarding his decision to leave the film industry, Abbas shared that after initial success, some of his movies faced failure, leaving him financially destitute and unable to afford necessities. Although he approached a producer for work, he eventually left films because he was bored and not enjoying his work.

After his time in New Zealand, Abbas seems to have returned to Chennai and might be considering a return to films. In the current OTT era, opportunities for former heroes like Abbas may increase.
