BALLARI: Folk and Tollywood playback singer Mangli, who has gained equal popularity in Sandalwood, faced the anger of Kannada fans as her car was pelted with stones on Sunday. The incident took place in Bellari of Karnataka.
Local film fans, who were visibly upset with the singer for not being able to speak in Kannada, attacked her car with stones while she was returning after a performance at a Bellari festival event. According to reports, the Kannada fans were upset with the singer as she has refused to speak Kannada at a recent programme in Chikkaballapur.
In a video that went viral on social media, the singer spoke a few words in Kannada after the anchor of the programme compelled the singer. This particular incident did not go well with the fans.
The netizens took Mangli to task for not being able to speak Kannada even after her association with the Kannada film industry for well over two years. She claimed that she was not well-versed with the language. The netizens raised the bogey of giving more chances to Kannada singers than people who refuse to speak the language.
The Bellari festival was held at Bellari municipal college. Senior actor Raghavendra Raj Kumar and Ashwini, wife of Puneeth Raj Kumar, attended the ceremony as chief guests. As part of the programme, Mangli crooned several hit numbers on stage. Several other popular singers also participated in the programme.
