37th Hyderabad Sailing Week kicks off in Hussain Sagar with Laser National Championship
The week-long event would conclude on July 9, 2023, with all event organisers and award recipients would be facilitated at the Secunderabad Sailing Club
HYDERABAD: The 37th Hyderabad Sailing Week 2023 and Laser National Championship kicked off on Tuesday in Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad.
Lt. Gen. JS Sidana, Commandant, MCEME, Colonel Commandant Corps of EME, flagged off more than 100 sail boats on Tuesday. The National Laser Championship serves as a trial event for the Asian Games. The Yachting Association of India (YAI) has granted accreditation to the event.
The Laser National Championship, which is held under the auspices of the EME Sailing Association (EMESA) and the Laser Class Association of India in collaboration with Secunderabad Sailing Club, saw the participation of a large number of potential and professional sailors from across the country.
As on Tuesday, 89 individuals, representing 11 clubs, registered themselves. They include 11 women and 17 from Telangana. Murali Kanuri (72) is the oldest participant this year.
In his inaugural address, Lt. Gen. JS Sidana, who is also the Commodore of EME Sailing Association and Vice-President of Laser Class Association of India, thanked the EME Sailing Association for organising such a spectacular event and the Telangana Sports Association for encouraging the State's youth to participate in the competitive sport. He hoped that this would pave the way for sailors to represent the country in many national and international forums in the future.
The week-long event will conclude on July 9, 2023, when the event organisers and winners under various categories of the championship will be facilitated at the Secunderabad Sailing Club.
