7 killed in major fire mishap in chemical godown at Bazarghat in Hyderabad

Seven people were killed, 16 rescued in a major fire accident at a chemical godown in Bazarghat near Nampally in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD: Seven people were killed, 16 rescued in a major fire accident at a chemical godown in Bazarghat near Nampally in Hyderabad.Rescue operations were commenced by the fire department. Three fire tenders were pressed intro service.

According to Deputy Commssioner of Police , among the deceased four were identified as men and two women. The fire spready to four flours and several labourers are said to have been trapped inside. Government machinery has immedietly swung into action for rescue.

The building owner Ramesh Jaiswal has chemical factories in other locations. He is using the ground floor as a godown to store old drums and cans.

He rented out portions on all other floors. The dead and injured persons stayed on the first and second floors. As per reports residents on third and fourth floors are safe and escaped with small Injuries and breathing problems. Police said that the building owner was absconding.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed shock over the incident and condoled the death of nine people in the fire mishap. He has directed officials to provide immediate medical help to the injured and undertake rescue and relief operations.

Ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh announced

Minister for IT and Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao along with Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav visited the spot and enquired about the details of the mishap. Later speaking with the media he said that a detailed inquiry into the incident had been ordered.

"Six months ago we completed a fire audit and I really don't understand how this particular godown was not verified. In addition to Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased, he said that all those injured are being treated at the Osmania hospital. If required they will be shifted to private hospitals," KTR said.
