ADB approves Rs.3.32 crore to develop, test, implement passenger safety projects in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Asian Development Bank(ADB) has granted Rs.3.32 crore to a team of technology experts from BITS Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kharagpur for passenger safety projects in Hyderabad.
BITS Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kharagpur experts, led by Prof. Prasanta Sahu, were working on developing technology solutions to improve last-mile security for metro rail and public transit passengers under the guidance of HMRL MD NVS Reddy.
Participating in an intense competition of similar entries from across the globe, this team won the Asian Development Bank’s grant of Rs. 3.32 crore to develop, test, and implement it in the public transport systems of Hyderabad.
The Technologies for Urban Transit to Enhance Mobility & Safe Accessibility(TUTEM) inception workshop was held at BITS, Hyderabad Campus, with DGP Anjani Kumar as Chief Guest and MD, HMRL NVS Reddy as Guest of Honour on Monday.
DGP Anjani Kumar urged the team to devise effective solutions and pledged full police department support to ensure success and boost commuter confidence in safe travel.
HMRL MD NVS Reddy emphasized technology as a tool to solve socio-economic problems, urging team to develop implementable solutions. He also highlighted police and metro rail initiatives, CCTV surveillance systems, and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's vision to expand Metro rail project for safety and global competitiveness.
Director, BITS, Hyderabad Prof. G. Sundar, Prof. Avijit Maji of IIT Bombay, Addl. DG Women Safety, Shikha Goel, Addl. DG CID, Mahesh Bhagwat, ADB India representative Kaushal Kumar Sahu, and several other professors, technology experts, senior police officers, and metro rail officers participated in the workshop.
