HYDERABAD: Telangana Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao on Tuesday reacted to the killing of four-year-old Pradeep, who was mauled by stray dogs in Amberpet of Hyderabad. Terming the incident ‘tragic’, he conveyed his heart-felt condolences to the boy’s family and vowed to take remedial steps to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.
The Minister said that his Government was making all the efforts in every municipality to resolve the stray dog menace. Animal protection centres and animal birth control centres have been established across the state besides initiating steps for the sterilisation of stray dogs, he added.
A pack of street dogs attacked four-year-old Pradeep close to his father’s workplace. He was savagely bitten and mauled by the dogs, leading to his death.
Hyderabad Mayor orders inquiry
Even as the incident sparked widespread outcry, Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi ordered the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials concerned to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
She also called for an emergency meeting with the corporation authorities to explore additional measures to be taken to contain this problem that is wide-spread in the city.
Shocked netizens also vented their anger on social media platforms and demanded decisive steps to rid the city of the stray dog population.
