An autorickshaw driver died on the spot after an age-old tree on the footpath fell on his vehicle at the Old MLA colony on Saturday
HYDERABAD: In a tragic incident, an autorickshaw driver died on the spot after an age-old tree on the footpath fell on his vehicle while he was waiting at a traffic signal at the Old MLA colony in Hyderaguda on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Gouse Pasha. According to police, the incident occurred at 1.22 pm on Saturday. Two autorickshaws were stopped near a traffic signal in Hyderguda. All of a sudden, an age-old tree fell on the auto rickshaws and damaged them. Gouse Pasha was waiting in his autorickshaw near the traffic signal. A major mishap was averted as there was not much vehicular movement near the traffic signal during the incident, the police said.
Upon obtaining the information about the incident, a team of police personnel and GHMC's Disaster and Response Force (DRF) personnel rushed to the spot. Power supply was disrupted for a while in the locality as an electrical pole adjacent to an age-old tree also collapsed. Alerted electricity officials halted the power supply and carried out the works. Meanwhile, DRF personnel removed the age-old tree and the traffic police personnel streamlined the vehicular movement.
The body was shifted to Osmania Hospital for post-mortem, the police said, and added that further investigations were underway into the incident.
