HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana President Bandi Sanjay courted fresh controversy on Saturday with his indecent remarks against BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, triggering a wave of protests from the ruling party leaders and activists in Telangana and Delhi. A complaint was lodged in Hyderabad against the Karimnagar MP demanding his arrest even as the Telangana Women’s Commission, taking the rants seriously, summoned Bandi Sanjay for inquiry.

Referring to Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi liquor policy case, Bandi Sanjay made uncourteous remarks in Telugu, which, translated into English, would mean, “Would the ED kiss and make up instead of arresting Kavitha?”

The BRS MLC appeared before the ED in Delhi on Saturday. The lewd comments, unbecoming of a Parliamentarian and the chief of a national party’s state unit, sparked angry reactions from the BRS cadre as well as the netizens, who began roasting the Karimnagar MP. The BJP leader has gained notoriety for his loudmouth and uncouth behaviour in public with his frequent loose-cannon rants.

In no time, infuriated activists of the BRS burned an effigy of Bandi Sanjay at the Telangana Bhavan in Delhi demanding his immediate arrest and stern punishment for his indecent comments against a woman leader. Protests were also staged across Telangana by members of the BRS and Bharat Jagruthi. One such demonstration was staged in front of the ED office in Hyderabad led by BRS MLA from Khairathabad Danam Nagender and Talasani Sai Kiran, the son of Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

A police complaint was lodged against the Telangana BJP chief at the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police station by a group of BRS men who demanded Bandi Sanjay’s immediate arrest. As per latest reports, complaints were also lodged at multiple locations across Telangana including Vanasthalipuram, Nizamabad and Banjara Hills police stations.

A delegation of the BRS also petitioned the National Women's Commission (NWC) seeking action against Bandi Sanjay.

In yet another spontaneous reaction, the Telangana Women’s Commission took suo motu cognisance of Bandi Sanjay’s comments and summoned him to appear before it for an inquiry. The commission issued a notice to the BJP Telangana chief asking him to personally appear before it for the purpose.

Bandi Sanjay was also being torn apart by netizens, who have reacted angrily to his controversial comments and demanded stern action against him.
