HYDERABAD: In a strange incident, the police in Hyderabad arrested a BJP leader who faked an assassination attempt to gain attention and police protection.

During a press conference at Uppal Police Station, Malkajigiri Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Padmaja revealed that Bhaskar Goud, a BJP leader, and six others were arrested for planning a fake "attempt to murder." Two more people connected to the incident are currently on the run.

Bhaskar Goud, who was also a film producer and lived in Boduppal, had told the police that there was an attempt on his life on February 24 near Uppal Bhagayat. The police quickly registered a case and started investigating.

To everyone's surprise, the police found out that Bhaskar had arranged the fake assassination himself, agreeing to pay Rs 2.50 lakh to the supposed "attackers."

DCP Padmaja explained that Bhaskar's motive was to gain sympathy and attention from the public. He hoped that by faking the threat, the police would provide him with a personal security detail, boosting his image and social status.

The police said that Bhaskar Goud has been involved in several cases in the past, with seven cases registered against him in various police stations in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

As part of the arrests, the police seized an Innova car, two motorcycles, and Rs 2 lakh in cash from the accused individuals. They have been sent to judicial custody.
