HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress leaders organised a protest rally from Babu Jagjivan Ram’s statue to Tank Bund Ambedkar’s statue in Basheerbagh on Monday. The protest was held on the call given by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to condemn the BJP’s attempt to block Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi ensued was blocked by authorities from visiting the Sri Sri Sankar Dev Satra temple in Bordua in Assam’s Haiboragaon.

Participating in a candle light rally, IT Minister Sridhar Babu said, "The Assam Government has failed to provide security to Rahul Gandhi. They should apologise to the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. The BJP is jealous of the support that Rahul has been receiving across the country and have thus resorted to attacks. BJP workers are behaving like gangsters in Assam. The Congress will be at the forefront to protect democracy."

Rahul, along with other Congress leaders, was stopped at Haiboragaon and not allowed to proceed further. Mahila Congress leaders then sat on a dharna to protest against the denial of permission to Gandhi to visit the temple. The Congress MP also joined the dharna.
