Cyberabad police advisory for New Year celebrations; road closures, strict drunk-driving vigil

HYDERABAD: In view of New Year celebrations December 31, the Cyberabad police on Wednesday announced certain traffic restrictions. Accordingly, the Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) would be closed for light motor vehicles except vehicles bound towards the PVNR Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) would be closed between 10 pm and 5 am, except the vehicles bound towards the Airport.
Shilpa Layout flyover, Gachibowli flyover, Bio-diversity flyovers I &II, Shaikpet flyover, Mind space flyover, Road No.45 flyover, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, Cyber tower flyover, Forum Mall-JNTU flyover, Kaithalapur flyover, 10, Babu Jagjivan Ram flyover (Balanagar) and AMB flyover (Kondapur) would be totally closed for vehicular and pedestrian movement from 11 pm to 5 am.
The Cyberabad police asked drivers/operators of cabs/taxi/auto rickshaws to be in proper uniform and carry all their documents. “The drivers are warned against refusing to ride on hire to any public. It is a violation of Section 178 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Penalty of Rs. 500 will be imposed in the form of e-challan on such refusal to ply. Public may send such complaints to us on WhatsApp 9490617346 with details of vehicle, time, place etc,” the police said.
The Cyberabad police cautioned bar / pub / club etc knowingly or negligently allowing their customers / associates to drive under the influence of alcohol after consuming alcohol in their premises would be dealt strictly as per law and the concerned management would be prosecuted for abetting the crime. Extensive checks would be conducted for drunk driving across all roads in the Cyberabad starting from 8 pm on December 31, the police said and added that persons caught for drunken driving would be sent to the Road Transport Authority (RTA) for suspension.
The Cyberabad police also said that special cameras were being installed to detect dangerous violations like over speed, wrong route, signal jump, rash driving and riding without helmet etc. If any one found violating these violations would be identified through these cameras and strict action would be taken against them. Minor driving or driving without a valid Driving License would lead to detention of the vehicle and the owner and driver both would be prosecuted in the court of law, the police added.
