HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty in an order here on Sunday prohibited gatherings of more than five people from 6 am on June 23 till 11 pm on June 29 under the police station limits of Miyapur and Chandanagar here in Hyderabad.

The Police took the decision following reports of groups of people encroaching upon Government land.

Given the prevailing law and order situation and to prevent danger to human life and safety, to prevent disturbance of public tranquility, and to prevent the occurrence of riot or an affray or obstruction to any person in his lawful discharge of duty, Cyberabad police section 144 Cr. P.C. prohibited any gathering of five or more persons in the areas specified therein.

Police prohibited people who do not ordinarily reside in the area or do not ordinarily have work in the area from entering the limits of the areas specified herein.

However, police officers on duty, military personnel on duty, home guards on duty funeral processions, and marriage functions were exempted from the operation of this order.

Any person violating the above orders shall be liable for prosecution, the order said.

A few policemen sustained injuries when a mob pelted stones on them during an anti-encroachment drive at Miyapur on Saturday. According to the police, a few hundred people had erected sheds and huts on a land parcel measuring around 600 acres located at Miyapur and were demanding the government allocate the land to them.
