Danam Nagender quits BRS, joins Congress: More loyal to position than party

HYDERABAD: Khairatabad BRS MLA and former Minister Danam Nagender resigned from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and joined the Congress on Sunday. He is likely to be the Congress party’s MP candidate for Secunderabad Lok Sabha seats, putting an end to the aspirations of former Mayor Bonthu Rammohan who has made all preparations hoping for a nomination.

A chequered career
Nagender always was politically unstable. Though he stayed on in the Congress from 1994 to 2004, he joined the TDP just before the polls. He won the Asifnagar seat in 2004 on a TDP ticket but soon resigned and in the by-election, he lost.

Danam Nagender was MLA from Asifnagar in 1994,1999 and 2004. Then he was elected from Khairatabad in 2009 and 2018.
He won from Khairatabad on the Congress ticket in 2009 and worked as a Minister in YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s Cabinet and then in Konijeti Rosaiah’s Cabinet.
In 2014. he contested against Chintala Ramachandra Reddy of the BJP and lost. He quit the Congress on June 23, 2018, and joined the BRS after it came to power.
He contested in 2018 elections and defeated Ramachandra Reddy. In 2023, he contested from the Khairatabad Assembly Constituency on the BRS ticket and won. Now that the Congress is in power he moved on to join the Congress.
