HYDERABAD: Following a tragic incident where a youth lost his life while taking selfies on the busy Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge, the Madhapur police have announced that they will now be imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 on those who are caught parking their vehicles on the bridge for sightseeing or clicking photographs.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector G Mallesh of Madhapur police station, who inquired into the cable bridge accident, stated that the fine amount, which was in place for some time was brought into force on Sunday. Anyone found parking their vehicle on the bridge or engaging in the act of taking selfies will face a penalty of Rs 1,000.”
He stated that people could park their vehicles at designated parking areas located in front of ITC Kohenur and proceed to enjoy sightseeing and taking photos. However, he said that there was restriction on misusing the space by occupying the road for photo opportunities or cake cutting.
According to the inspector, the police would utilise the eight CCTV cameras positioned along the length of the bridge and deploy two patrol vehicles for continuous vigilance and quick response in case of any emergencies. Inspector Mallesh highlighted a recent hit-and-run incident where prompt action was taken by the patrol vehicle, leading to the victim being swiftly transported to a hospital for treatment.
