Dubai passenger caught smuggling powdered gold worth Rs 7.7 lakh at Hyderabad airport
Officials of Customs Air Intelligence unit at RGIA in Hyderabad have intercepted a passenger from Dubai and seized 127 gm of gold in powder form mixed with kids milk drink powder.
HYDERABAD: Officials of Customs Air Intelligence unit at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad have intercepted a passenger from Dubai and seized 127 gm of gold in powder form worth Rs 7,77,621 and mixed with kids milk drink powder.
The passenger, whose name was not revealed, arrived from Dubai on Saturday, June 17,2023 on flight number 6E-1484. During their routine passenger profiling, the customs authorities found out that the man was carrying a plastic box containing brown powder that appeared to be a kids milk drink mix.
However, on thorough verification and questioning, it was found that the brown granulated substance actually contained gold in powder form. The gold, after extraction from the powder, weighed 127 gms which was subsequently seized by the authorities. Further investigation is going on.
Gold weighing 726 grams confiscated
In another case, one female passenger who arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight was found to be concealing a packet of gold paste and two gold chains in her under garmets. The confiscated gold was weighing 726 grams worth Rs 45,37,500 .
