Food safety inspections uncover violations at Kritunga, Headquarters, KFC in Somajiguda

HYDERABAD: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Task Force Team, constituted by the Commissioner of Food Safety, conducted inspections at three prominent restaurants in Somajiguda, Hyderabad on May 21, 2024, and found several violations at the restaurants.

At Kritunga – The Palegar’s Cuisine Restaurant in Somajiguda

Six kgs of Ganga Gold Paneer worth Rs. 2,100 were found in sealed packets without FSSAI License, logo, and use by dates, hence discarded on the spot at Kritunga – The Palegar’s Cuisine Restaurant in Somajiguda.

Additionally, six kgs of Methi Malai Paste worth Rs. 1,800, expired on April 4, 2024, as per its label, and were consequently discarded on the spot. Moreover, 156 units of 1-liter water bottles of Kritunga Palegar’s Brand worth Rs. 7,800 were seized due to a TDS value of just 4 ppm, as detected using a TDS Meter on the spot, with samples sent to the laboratory for analysis.

Non-veg paste worth Rs. 648 and citric acid-containing packets worth Rs. 150 were found without proper labels and were discarded on the spot. Additionally, semi-prepared and raw food articles were stored inside the refrigerator without proper labeling and covering.

The kitchen premises were found open to the outside environment without proper mesh/barrier to avoid the entry of pests or flies, and dustbins were found open without lids. Food handlers were found without hair caps, gloves, and aprons, with medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records not found with the FBO.

Furthermore, water analysis reports were not available with FBO for RO water supplied and used at the premises for cooking and drinking.

Head Quarters Rest-o-Bar in Somajiguda

Fifty 50 pizza bases worth Rs. 400, five packets of garlic bread worth Rs. 800, and 5 kgs of Noodles worth Rs. 400 were discarded on the spot for not having any labels on their sealed packs.

Food articles stored inside the refrigerator were not labeled properly. Food handlers were found without wearing any hair caps, gloves, and aprons.

Medical fitness certificates for food handlers were not found with the FBO. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food articles were stored together in the refrigerator.The FBO was found using synthetic food colors; hence, food color stock worth Rs. 400 was discarded on the spot.

KFC (Yum Restaurant India Pvt. Ltd.,)

The FSSAI License true copy was not displayed at any prominent location of the premises.

The Telangana Task Force team conducted inspections in the Uppal area on May 20, 2024, and made the following findings

Master Chef Restaurant

• Found using synthetic food colors. Discarded on the spot.
• Four expired Vijaya Milk packets, unlabeled Ginger Garlic paste (65 KG), and bakery items were discarded.

M/s. Hotel Sai Brundavan Pure Veg

• Found using synthetic food colors. Discarded on the spot.
  
• Misbranded Jaggery (144kg) and cashew (4kg) worth Rs. 13,000 were seized for not having proper labeling on their packs.

Labonel Fine Baking in Hyderabad

• American Garden Vinegar apple Cider bottles found to be imported from the USA, but there is no label of Importer and FSSAI logo/license details on the package. Four such bottles were seized at the premises, worth Rs. 740.
  

- One packet of Monalisa Dark chocolate Crispearls (800g) & one packet of Monalisa white chocolate Crispearls (800g) were found to be expired and hence discarded, items worth Rs. 4,170 on the spot.

Additionally, the Medical Fitness Certificate of Food Handlers expired on March 15, 2024, and was not renewed thereafter.
