Four Telangana residents among 75 awardees recognised at British Parliament

LONDON: The British government, in collaboration with the National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK (NISAU) and British Council, honored 75 individuals of Indian origin for their significant contributions following their education in British universities. The awards ceremony, held at the UK Parliament in London on February 28, 2024, commemorated 75 years of India's independence.
Among the distinguished awardees were four individuals from Telangana State: Dr. Pilarisetti Raghuram, a prominent cancer surgeon and recipient of the Padma Shri award, honored in the Medicine category; Jayesh Ranjan, a senior IAS officer in the Telangana government, recognized in the Government and Politics category; Akhil Ennamsetty, an advocate practicing before the Telangana High Court, commended for his contributions in the Law category; and Shrenik Rao, the esteemed editor of The Madras Courier newspaper, acknowledged in the Media and Journalism category.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the previous edition of these prestigious awards.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak extended his appreciation to Indian residents who have been educated in Britain, emphasising their significant impacts across various sectors. He underlined the importance of the bilateral relationship between India and the UK, expressing pride in acknowledging these individuals on behalf of the British government. The ceremony witnessed the presence of diplomats representing both nations, members of the British Parliament, and delegates from various universities across the UK.
