HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) general body meeting on Tuesday was marked by heated discussions as corporators slammed the officials for their failure to resolve public issues.
Chaired by GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, the meeting witnessed strong criticism of officials for their perceived failure in handling various issues, especially the menace of stray dogs in Hyderabad. They urged officials to behave in a more accountable manner and condemned the misuse of Saroornagar Indoor Stadium, stating it was being used less for sports and more for private functions.
BJP corporators expressed their anger towards the authorities for not paying attention to them, mistreating them and not responding to their calls. The corporators asked how they should answer to the public.
On the other hand, Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilata Shobhan Reddy thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allocating Rs 1100 crore for the corporation, which was the first in the history of GHMC that such a huge amount was allocated to the corporation. She requested the Chief Minister to take special initiatives to further develop the city of Hyderabad. She also mentioned that all the promises given by the Congress during elections were being implemented one by one and the Prajavani program was getting a good response from the people in Hyderabad.
It should be noted that the GHMC Mayor had introduced an annual budget of Rs 8,437 crore for the financial year 2024-25. The budget could not be discussed and approved on Monday as the council meeting was adjourned to facilitate the participation of MLAs, MLCs, and other officials in another meeting convened by Hyderabad Incharge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.
GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose, MLCs MS Prabhakar, Surabhi Vanidevi, Balmoori Venkat, and Mohammad Meraj Baig, Charminar MLA Mir Zulfeqar Ali, Nampally MLA Mohammad Majid Hussain, Corporators, Zonal Commissioners, and senior officials of respective departments participated in this meeting.
