GHMC gears up with measures to pre-empt nala encroachments, mishaps

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated measures to safeguard nalas from encroachments and the residents from nala-related mishaps during the coming monsoon season. The Municipal Corporation, which has decided to conduct the audit of nalas like every year, directed the officials to make markings and deploy either an assistant engineer or deputy EE to oversee the works.
A GHMC statement said that it was ordered to take strict measures to prevent accidents in open nala boxes and to restore the protection walls, chain link, fencing, barricades, fencing of drains, and warning boards. The corporation directed the engineering officers assigned to the wards to replace the damaged covers on box drain manholes.
The GHMC warned the authorities that they would be held responsible if there was any loss of life or property due to negligence in work. It asked the officials to enter the details of de-silting in the register besides uploading the relevant photos.
The officials were directed to set up the danger warning boards and take steps to remove floating wastes in the nalas from time to time besides the installation of meters at vulnerable points.
