HYDERABAD: HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Ronald Ross has instructed officials to prepare proposals for the construction of a retaining wall on the Hussain Sagar surplus nala. During an inspection of the site where a woman tragically fell into the canal, ronald Ross, along with MLA Mutha Gopal, visited Maruti Nagar, Damodar Sanjivaiah Nagar, Gandhinagar and Ashok Nagar Colony. MLA Mutha Gopal expressed the need for a higher retaining wall on both sides and Commissioner Ross immediately ordered the officials to prepare the proposal.
The Commissioner also emphasised the identification of structures, including houses and dilapidated buildings, built on top of the nala returning wall. He directed the town planning authorities to submit a complete report on the buffer space required for the construction of a retaining wall.
During an inspection of the canal at Sabarmati Bridge at Gandhinagar, the Commissioner noticed unauthorised extensions on top of the retaining wall and ordered removal of these structures. As per the Commissioner's orders, the structures were promptly removed and steps were taken to construct structures within the retaining wall.
In regards to the development of Indira Park, the Commissioner instructed UBD officials to begin proposed works immediately. Additional Commissioner V Krishna was tasked with expediting the completion of these works and was directed to form a committee consisting of representatives from the Walkers Association to gather opinions and ensure feasibility in the beautification of Indira Park.
Commissioner Ross visited the Gowshala in Kavadiguda to inquire about waste management and ordered steps to prevent the dumping of plastic waste in nearby empty spaces.
Ronald Ross also issued a directive stating that no one should open a manhole under the GHMC limits during rainy conditions. Stating that leaving manholes open during floods or when water accumulates on the roads could lead to accidents, Ronald Ross warned that strict action would be taken against unauthorised individuals who open or remove manhole covers.
However, the commissioner advised the people to dial GHMC helpline number 040-2111 1111 to address any floodwater-related issues and asserted that GHMC staff will be responsible for opening, cleaning, and closing the lids of manholes. He urged all citizens to cooperate in ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone by adhering to these guidelines.
