Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Complex at Rs 100 crore to come up at Mudasarlova
Officials told YS Jagan that several infrastructure works were taken up with a cost of Rs. 3,592 crore in Visakhapatnam alone in the last four years
AMARAVATI: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is gearing up to construct a complex at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore on an extent of four acres at Mudasarlova, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) officials told the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during a review meeting at his camp office in Tadepalli on Friday.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asked officials to take steps to conserve water and ensure that industries coming up on the sea coast use the sea water through desalination. Officials told him that works like construction of roads and buildings, drains, water supply, parks, street lights, sewage treatment, civic services and beautification were taken up at a cost of Rs. 3,592 crore in Visakhapatnam alone in the last four years.
In view of the growing population of Visakhapatnam, the Chief Minister advised the officials to focus on road widening and traffic improvement to avoid inconvenience. In return, the officials informed him that steps would be taken to develop a modern park, a commercial complex at the RTC bus stand, a multi-level car parking facility and construct sports complexes at Bheemili, Gajuwaka and Anakapalli at a cost of Rs 300 crore.
Referring to the improvement of road infrastructure in the State, YS Jagan asked the officials to conduct a special drive and expedite the ongoing works in all major cities, apart from concentrating on development of roads as the post-rainy season commenced. Apart from that, he also took stock of the progress of works and development activities in major towns and cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Kurnool, Kadapa and Guntur.
Pertaining to the development works in Vijayawada, the Chief Minister suggested the officials ensure that all canals and their surroundings in the city should be tidy and asked them to use available modern equipment for this. He asked them to expedite the work of Dr. BR Ambedkar Smrutivanam and the beautification of the airport road and along the flood protection wall at Krishna Lanka.
Informing about the ongoing developmental works in Rajamahendravaram, the officials said the beautification drive at Kambala Cheruvu and its surroundings in Rajamahendravaram was completed and other works were in progress. He suggested the officials concentrate on the beautification of the Havelock Bridge and fast-forward the construction of a flood protection wall at Nellore.
YS Jagan asked the officials to constitute resident welfare associations to maintain the TIDCO houses and focus on water conservation in the Jagananna colonies. The officials should concentrate on professional running of floating solar panels, sanitation machines and STPs and train the staff in using them properly, he said, and added that students of Polytechnic and ITIs should be trained in using technology in the running of various urban projects.
