Hyderabad first city in India with 100 percent sewerage treatment facilities: KTR
Hyderabad generates about 2,000 Minimal Liquid Discharge (MLD) everyday, and the Telangana Government invested Rs. 3,866 crore to build 31 new sewage treatment plants
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is the first city in India with 100 per cent sewerage treatment facilities, said BRS working president KT Rama Rao.
KTR addressed the Partners in Progress programme at the JRC Covention Centre on Saturday, saying, "We have done a lot of significant work in the last 9.5 years and the public never let go of the Government that is hardworking. We have undertaken numerous initiatives, and we intend to undertake numerous additional developmental initiatives in the State if we retake power on December 3, 2023.
"My dream is for Hyderabad to host the Olympics in 2036. We will focus on creating international-level sports infrastructure in the city after developing all of the necessary infrastructure in the city in order to host the Olympics," said KTR.
"Many people are not aware of this, but Hyderabad is the first city in the country with 100 percent sewerage treatment facilities," he said and referred to Hyderabad being the first city in the country with 100 percent sewerage treatment facilities.
KTR said that Hyderabad generates about 2,000 Minimal Liquid Discharge (MLD) everyday, and the Telangana Government invested Rs. 3,866 crore to build 31 new sewage treatment plants to treat 1,259 MLD. "Hyderabad will be at the forefront of sewage treatment in metropolitan cities of the country when all 31 STPs are completed. All of the sewage treatment plants would be operational once the BRS government is re-elected on December 3, 2023, " he said.
Highlighting the various BRS Government's developmental initiatives, KTR said, "We provided 24-hour electricity across the State, and people are now so accustomed to having electricity all the time that they question us when there is even a 10-minute power outage. To provide seamless permissions for starting a business and to prevent corruption, the TS-bPASS Initiative was launched."
He said that the Telangana Government ensured that effective law and order was implemented throughout the state, and as a result, there were no communal riots or regional disturbances here to date. Women safety programs such as she teams were introduced for women's safety, he added.
CCTV cameras were installed throughout the state to improve citizen safety. Several roads were improved, and flyovers, underpasses, Road under Bridges (RuBs), and Road over Bridges (RoBs) were built as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), said KTR.
KTR recalled the protests that were staged by the opposition parties in the capital city for drinking water in the past and said that there were no water woes in Hyderabad anymore. He highlighted that Chief Minister KCR with his vision ensured there were no drinking water problems in Hyderabad till 2052.
This was done by constructing the Kondapochamma Sagar project to supply Godavari water and drawing Krishna water from Sunkishala, he said, adding that the dream was to ensure 24-hour water supply in Hyderabad.
If returned to power, KTR promised to provide adequate drinking water to every household in the next ten years and stabilize the water supply in the next five years. He also promised improved and enhanced sanitation facilities in commercial areas in the city.
KTR said that Additional Special Commissioners would be appointed exclusively for the development and maintenance of parks and water bodies, and would be appointed by the BRS government after the elections.
While highlighting his future plans for infrastructure development, KTR said, "We will strive to protect lakes from encroachment across the State. "We have already renovated 32 lakes and plan to renovate the remaining 180. We also intend to build 6–8 demolition plants. The addition of 1,500 swachh auto tippers will help with waste management. We are also attempting to develop scientific methods for disposing of waste at non-veg markets, as street dogs have become ferocious in response to waste disposed of at non-veg markets. We are doing everything we can to control the street dog menace, and ABC Centres are sterilising dogs to control their birth population."
“Imagine you are traveling in a ‘CAR’ (BRS symbol) from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. Despite two halts for tea and snacks, if the car is in good condition and the driver is good, would you change the car just for novelty?” KTR asked.
