HYDERABAD: Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) KT Rama Rao (KTR) will lay a foundation stone for the construction of five bridges on Musi and Esa Rivers at an estimated cost of Rs 168 crore at a single location in Uppal Bhagayat on Monday.

In a statement issued by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Sunday, the officials said that the State Government initiated significant changes under the leadership of KTR in order to meet the infrastructural needs of the public in accordance with the increasing traffic within the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR).

The State Government decided to construct 14 bridges over the Musi and Esa Rivers from Narsingi to Gowrelly to ease the traffic congestion in the core city of Hyderabad at a stretch of about 55 km. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation for two years, there was a delay in the construction activities of the bridges over the Musi and Esa Rivers.

Accordingly, a study was conducted on the requirement for additional bridges on the Musi River, taking into consideration the traffic projections and new developments. HMDA proposes to construct five bridges with four lanes across the Musi River. The administrative sanction was accorded by the State Government for an amount of Rs168 crore. Two bridges would come up at Budvel IT Park (on Esa) and the remaining three would be constructed on the Musi River at Manchirevula, HMDA Layout Uppal Bhagyat and Pratap Singaram.

The HMDA officials said that the tender procedure was completed through the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) method for the construction works of five bridges at an estimated cost of Rs168 crore. The deadline for the completion of five bridges is 15 months.

"The State Government is determined to complete the construction of all the HMDA bridges within 15 months and make them accessible to the people and motorists. Once the construction of bridges over the Musi and Esa rivers is completed, travelling will become easier.Travel distance and time will be reduced significantly, " the HMDA officials said.
