HYDERABAD: Vehicles illegally carrying cattle should be seized and immediately sent to the cattle holding points or Goshala's prescribed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in connection with the Bakrid festival, said Hyderabad police commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy on Friday.

A coordination meeting in connection with the ensuing Bakrid festival was held at ICCC, Banjara Hills by Hyderabad police commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy with various departments, namely Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, GHMC, RTA, and Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates.

He discussed the establishment of checkposts in and around Hyderabad city commissionerate to prevent the illegal carriage of cattle (without a veterinary doctor certificate for transporting the cattle and being fit for slaughter).

Vehicles illegally carrying cattle should be seized and immediately sent to the cattle holding points or Goshalas prescribed by GHMC. The public should not take the law into their hands regarding stopping and checking vehicles carrying cattle.

He further requested the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department and GHMC to ensure the availability of veterinary doctors at checkposts round the clock.

He also requested to the GHMC officials to depute dog-catching squads to move in mixed localities to catch the stray dogs before Bakrid, supply covers to households for disposal of carcasses, arrange special teams for garbage/carcass collection on the day of Bakrid, etc. The RTA department should keep sufficient drivers, mechanics, and cranes at strategic/central points.
