Hyderabad restaurant fined Rs. 5,000 for serving chutney with hair

HYDERABAD: Chutneys restaurant, located in A S Rao Nagar, ECIL, was fined Rs. 5,000 for serving a chutney with hair to Hyderabad resident Shrikhande Umesh.

Umesh Kumar, a consumer rights activist based in Hyderabad, visited Chutneys on June 11, 2024, with his family. He ordered MLA Dosa, Steam Dosa, and a plate of idly at the restaurant.

While dining, he discovered a hair in one of the chutneys served and promptly brought it to the attention of the restaurant's manager. He also alleged that the Bisleri water bottle, purchased from Chutneys, had TDS ratings of 80, 75, and 74 when checked at his home.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Umesh Kumar said, "Even though the manager accepted it and replaced the food with a new dish, it was an unpleasant experience to find hair in the food served at the restaurant."

The Assistant Food Controller of GHMC imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 for inconvenience, endangerment to public safety, and nuisance, offenses committed under the aforementioned sections of the HMC Act, 1955. Therefore, exercising powers under section 674 of the HMC Act, the offense was compounded with a fine of Rs. 5,000.
