Hyderabad traffic cops book 330,254 cases for ROPE violations till April 2023
Operation ROPE has resulted in a significant improvement in Hyderabad residents personal commuting habits
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad traffic police, which initiated the Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments (ROPE) operation this year, have booked 330,254 cases under ROPE violations until April 2023.
The objective of operation ROPE was to remove any obstructions caused by illegally parked commuter vehicles and goods by shopkeepers/street vendors on main carriageways or footpaths, as well as to facilitate safe pedestrian movements at all junctions.
All Hyderabad Traffic Police personnel directly educated the commuters as well as through other Hyderabad traffic police social media platforms during the ROPE operation. Later, traffic officers strictly enforced violations of the Stop Line Rule, Free Left, 39(B), and 41(1).Under the C.P. Act, obstruction and encroachment on carriageways/footpaths are prohibited.
Hyderabad traffic police booked 1,89,214 stop line cases, 3,7093 free left cases, 22,153 -39(B) C.P Act cases, 60,566-41(1) C.P Act cases, 21,228 wheel clamp cases and 332 encroachment FIRs.
According to the traffic police, operation ROPE has resulted in a significant improvement in Hyderabad residents personal commuting habits. The transformation was quite visible at all junctions, said the police.
Special drives against RTC buses and heavy vehicles to enhance road safety
To improve road safety, the Hyderabad traffic police Department also focused on the personal safety of the motorists and organised special Drives against 'wrong side driving' and 'triple riding on a motorbike' to prevent traffic accidents. Hyderabad traffic police also launched a special campaign against RTC, heavy vehicles, and four-wheelers to ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians.
Traffic cops booked 2,30,974 cases of wrong-side driving, 51,383 cases of triple riding, 8,587 cases against RTC buses, 7,841 cases against heavy vehicles, 42,273 cases of wrong number plates, 9,199 cases of black films, 1,600 cases of sirens, and 282 FIRs of wrong number plates until April 2023.
Hyderabad traffic police would continue special drives/enforcement on wrong side/triple driving and other commuter safety offences until the intended outcome is achieved in the context of road safety.
2,687 drivers booked for drunk driving in April 2023
The Hyderabad Traffic Police, which continues its campaign against drunken drivers in order to protect road safety, held 2,687 drink drivers under the influence of alcohol during the month of April-2023.
1,717 charge sheets were filed against them and were produced in the 3rd and 4th Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Nampally, Hyderabad. The courts also imposed a fine of Rs. 35,90,500.
In the year 2023, 13,429 drunk drivers were booked, with 2,687 booked in April 2023. There were 12,877 charges filed against violators, with 1,317 being imprisoned, 243 having their licences suspended.
According to the police, people convicted of drunk driving and other traffic infractions may encounter difficulties obtaining government positions, passports, and visas. The offenders were also counselled in TTI, Goshamahal, and Begumpet.
The campaign against drunk driving and other offences would continue for the safety of road users. The Hyderabad Traffic Police Department has asked all motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
