HYDERABAD: Hyderabad city witnessed heavy downpours on Sunday evening, as predicted by the Indian Metrological Department(IMD).

Heavy rains are expected to persist in various parts of the city for the next two hours, according to the Telangana Weatherman. Heavy rains in Hyderabad caused waterlogging on city roads in various parts of the city.

According to IMD, isolated areas of Hyderabad, Jangaon, Nizamabad, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Y. Bhuvanagiri, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, and Nalgonda experienced light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds less than 40 kmph (in gusts) on Sunday.

Telangana state would receive light to moderate rains at many places for the next three days. Thunder and lightning are likely to occur in Telangana State in some places and in some districts for the next three days. There is a chance of heavy rain at isolated places in western and northeastern districts, according to IMD.

Heavy rains are expected in several parts of Mancherial, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Warangal, Janagam, Hanmakonda, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts until Monday morning, according to the IMD.

Telangana Weatherman T Balaji said, "As expected, a big storm and torrential rain battered Hyderabad. Crazy downpours and lightning strikes to gradually shift to South Hyderabad and continue for the next one hour. After a one-hour pause, further spells are probable at night. 120-140 kph strikes were recorded in Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Kothapet, LB Nagar, Amberpet, and Charminar."
