ICC World Cup 2023: Netherlands pulls off a stunner against Bangladesh
Netherlands secured a remarkable win against Bangladesh, defeating them by a substantial margin of 87 runs
KOLKATA: Netherlands, following their recent victory over South Africa, delivered another impressive performance in the World Cup. They secured a remarkable win against Bangladesh, defeating them by a substantial margin of 87 runs.
In their innings, Netherlands initially faced a setback, losing their openers after just four runs. However, Barresi (41) and Ackermann managed to stabilize the innings with a 59-run partnership. Their contributions were valuable, even though they both departed within one over. Captain Edwards (68) later formed a crucial partnership with Sybrand Engelbrecht (35), enabling the Netherlands to reach a total of 229 runs in their allotted 50 overs.
The Bangladesh team struggled throughout their chase, as the Dutch bowlers consistently took wickets at regular intervals. Paul van Meekeren (4/23) was exceptional, claiming a five-wicket haul and dismantling the Bangladesh batting lineup. Consequently, Bangladesh was bowled out for a mere 142 runs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (35) being the top scorer among the men in green.
This defeat has all but eliminated Bangladesh from the semifinal race, while the Netherlands, although facing a similar situation, can draw motivation from their significant victory.
Scorecard:
Netherlands: 229/10 (50 overs)
Bangladesh: 142/10 (42.2 overs)
