BENGALURU: In a series of dramatic events, Pakistan claimed a 21-run victory over New Zealand through the DLS method. This crucial win ensures Pakistan's presence in the semifinal race and secures South Africa's spot in the semis as well. Now, the competition revolves around the remaining two semifinal berths.

In this high-scoring game, New Zealand batted first, starting strongly with openers Devon Conway (35) and Rachin Ravindra. Following Conway's dismissal, Kane Williamson (95) formed a formidable 180-run partnership with Rachin, with Rachin (108) notching a century during this collaboration.

Regrettably, Kane fell just five runs short of a century. After their departures, valuable contributions from Chapman (39) and Glen Phillips (41) helped New Zealand to a huge total of 401/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

Pakistan faced an early setback when opener Abdullah Shafique lost his wicket in the second over. However, Fakhar Zaman (126*) and Babar Azam (66*) skillfully settled the situation, forming a partnership that yielded an impressive 194 runs.

During this partnership, Fakhar delivered a century in a remarkable 63 balls, marking the fastest century by a Pakistani in World Cup history. With the score at 160/1, rain interrupted the match.

After a brief delay, play resumed, and Pakistan added 40 more runs to their total before rain once again forced a halt. Ultimately, according to the DLS method, Pakistan emerged as the winner.

This victory keeps Pakistan in the race for a semifinal berth, while New Zealand suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Scorecard:

New Zealand: 401/6 (50 overs)

Pakistan: 200/1 (25.3 overs)
