NEW DELHI: Bangladesh, previously eliminated from the World Cup semifinal race, has now knocked Sri Lanka out of the tournament. In a crucial must-win match, Sri Lanka suffered a three-wicket defeat against Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding all-round performance.
In their innings, Sri Lanka lost Kusal Perera early in the first over. However, Pathum Nissanka (41) and Kusal Mendis steadied the ship with a 61-run partnership. Following their dismissals, Samarawickrama (41) and Asalanka helped Sri Lanka post a competitive total, with Asalanka (108) scoring a century. Sri Lanka was eventually bowled out for 279 runs in 49.3 overs.
Bangladesh faced early setbacks in their chase, losing their openers. Yet, Shanto (90) and Shakib's (82) 169-run partnership put Bangladesh in a comfortable position. Although both fell short of centuries, their valuable contributions enabled Bangladesh to reach 282/7 in 41.1 overs.
Sri Lanka will play their final match against New Zealand on November 9, while Bangladesh will face Australia in their last game on November 11.
