HYDERABAD: Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday shared that about 35 projects were expeditiously completed by the BRS Government under Phase-I of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) in Hyderabad.

"This is a testimony of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's (KCR) commitment towards infrastructure development in Hyderabad while the delay in completion of flyovers at Uppal and Amberpet is proof of the BJP-led NDA Government’s inefficiency," said KTR.

Replying to questions by members on progress of SRDP scheme in Hyderabad during the Assembly session on Friday, KTR said that SDRP was the brain child of KCR and he took up the programme with the strong idea of making Hyderabad a cosmopolitan city. “Under the first phase of SRDP, we have completed 35 projects including construction of flyovers and underpasses. In LB Nagar, Serilingampally, Malkajgiri, Uppal and Rajendranagar, SRDP works are going at a brisk pace,” KTR said.

Giving a detailed outline of the progress of the SRDP in Hyderabad, KTR said that as many as 48 works were being expeditiously done in Hyderabad. Of this, 42 were taken up by the GHMC, one by HMDA and five by R&B and NHAI, the MA&UD minister said. "As many as 35 works taken up by the GHMC and HMDA are completed. While 10 works out of the total 13 taken by GHMC are near completion. Three works by NHAI are still progressing", KTR said. Listing out the proposed deadlines for various ongoing projects, KTR said that a flyover between Indira Park to VST would be completed during this month.

The MA&UD minister said that a second level flyover near Bairamalguda would be completed by November 2023. While ROBs near Falaknuma and Shastri puram would be completed by March 2024. Similarly, the flyover from Nalgonda X Roads to Owaisi Junction flyover and flyover near Shilpa layout would be completed by June 2024, he said. Meanwhile, the flyover between Aramgad to Zoo Park and another flyover near Uppal would be completed by December 2024. So far, the State Government had spent Rs 7,028 crore on materialising various projects proposed under SRDP in Hyderabad, KTR said.

Taking a dig at the Centre, KTR lashed out at Union Minister and BJP Telangana Unit President G Kishan Reddy for turning a blind eye over completion of a flyover in Amberpet on NH-163 in his constituency. "The State Government had acquired 262 properties at an estimated cost of Rs 149.90 crore and handed them over to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for expeditiously completing the construction of the flyover in Amberpet. So far, there had been no progress on completion of the project," KTR said.

"Similar is the case with the flyover construction in Uppal. Initially, the State Government had informed the Centre to take up the flyover construction in Uppal. However, the Centre had denied the proposal and handed over the project works to NHAI. Almost two years ago, over 253 properties were acquired at an estimated cost of Rs 190 crore and handed over to NHAI. Apart from that, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had spent Rs 37.86 crore towards providing drinking water and electricity supply," the Minister added.

“Instead of resorting to mudslinging against the BRS Government, Kishan Reddy who was representing the Parliament from Secunderabad constituency should focus on pressurising the Centre for realising the long-pending demand from the residents for the completion of flyovers at Uppal and Amberpet. Apart from that, Kishan Reddy should also get flood relief assistance for Telangana following the incessant rains”, the MA&UD minister said.
