HYDERABAD: The service roads that link the 158-km outer ring road (ORR) in Hyderabad have turned into death traps with no restriction on speed and no signages or speed breakers to streamline the traffic.

Despite the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) brightening up some of these stretches with LED lights at night time, vehicles descending from the ORR and the regular traffic that use the service roads to reach their destinations have no clue where the road leads and there are no traffic lights to streamline the mixed traffic.

Service roads adjacent to Narsingi, Police Academy (TSPA), Rajendranagar, and Pedda Golkonda are prone to accidents that go unnoticed. Heavy vehicles to and from ORR follow no traffic rules in the absence of traffic police. Interstate trucks often use the service roads to avoid toll charges.

Exit number 15 which was once inundated during the rainy season forcing the HMDA to repair and rectify the stretch too is prone to road accidents. Commuters who use these service roads are demanding the HMDA to immediately set up traffic lights and signages to save lives.
