Lambada woman allegedly thrashed by LB Nagar police, CP suspends 2 constables
She had reportedly gone to see her relatives in LB Nagar to arrange money for her daughter's wedding
HYDERABAD: A woman from the ST-Lambada tribe was allegedly thrashed by the LB Nagar police of the Rachakonda commissionerate in Hyderabad on Thursday.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Vadthya Laxmi, a Meerpet resident, received severe injuries while in police custody. She was allegedly caught up by the night patrol squad and taken to the police station, where she was beaten severely.
She had reportedly gone to see her relatives in LB Nagar to arrange money for her daughter's wedding, for which he had gone to her relatives for financial assistance when she was apprehended by the police. Despite providing all necessary documents, her phone was allegedly taken by police.
However, the police claimed that the woman was soliciting customers while standing on the highway, which led to her detention at around 2.30 a.m. Further investigation is underway.
Head constable Shivashankar and constable Sumalatha were suspended by Rachakonda Commissioner D S Chauhan.
DCP LB Nagar B Sai Sri took to Twitter and said, "I am personally enquiring into the matter with an open mind, will talk with the victim, and appropriate action will be taken against the police personnel if found at fault. In this regard, a case has also been registered on the complaint of the lady and is being investigated into the matter."
