HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday apprehended a Sub-Inspector (SI) and a writer working at the Madhapur police station for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 30,000 to avoid arrest of a complainant.

Sub-Inspector M Ranjit Kumar of Madhapur was caught by the ACB when he demanded Rs. 50,000 and accepted Rs 30,000 as a bribe from the complainant through the writer Vikram.

The bribe was solicited to refrain from arresting the complainant in Criminal Case No. 225/2024 under sections 441, 427, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at the Madhapur police station, and to settle the matter in Lok Adalat.

The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of AO-2 (accused officer-2) from his office's computer table drawer.

Both M Ranjit Kumar, sub-inspector of Police at Madhapur police station, Cyberabad, and AO-2 Vikram PC of Madhapur police station were arrested and presented before the first additional special judge for SPE and ACB cases at the Court in Nampally. The case is currently under investigation.
