HYDERABAD: The long-awaited monsoon arrived in Telangana state on Wednesday evening, bringing torrential downpours to several parts of the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipated the first rains of the monsoon season on June 21 after a 10-day delay, and it did pour in numerous parts of the state as predicted.
The long-awaited monsoon rains would provide much-needed relief to Telangana residents, who have been subjected to terrible heatwaves due to scorching temperatures.
According to Telangana Weatherman T. Balaji, powerful thunderstorms erupted on Wednesday afternoon in Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Mancherial, Rangareddy, and Yadadri-Bhongir districts. As storms gathered over Hyderabad, the Telangana Weatherman also forecasted heavy rains in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, rains intensified in East Hyderabad, including Kapra, ECIL, Cherlapally, Mallapur, Nacharam, Chengicherla, Neredmet, and Boduppal.
Telangana Weatherman, T Balaji said, "Hyderabad and Warangal will continue to receive good monsoon rains for the next two hours. Meanwhile, the Karimnagar district welcomes the first monsoon rain, which is slowly making its way into the city. Sangareddy, Siddipet, and Sircilla will also receive scattered monsoon showers."
Hyderabad can expect largely cloudy skies with a few brief periods of rain or thundershowers, followed by intermittent rain, over the next two days. The highest and minimum temperatures in the city are forecast to be about 37-38 degrees Celsius and 26-27 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The monsoon is forecast to be weak in the beginning, but should pick up pace by the end of June. The IMD predicts that Telangana would receive average rainfall this season.
The arrival of the South-West monsoon in Telangana brought relief and happiness to many Hyderabad residents. They took to Twitter and shared videos of rain and thundershowers from their respective areas.
