One held for illegal supply of Mephentermine Sulphate in Habeeb Nagar
The police seized 10 Mephentermine sulphate injections and Rs 10,000 from the accused
HYDERABAD: The Habeeb Nagar police apprehended one person for illegally supplying Mephentermine sulphate injections without any valid licence on Sunday. The police also seized 10 Mephentermine sulphate injections and Rs 10,000 from him.
Habeeb Nagar Sub Inspector (SI) K Shiva Kumar said that the accused was identified as Arshad Mumtajoddin Sheikh (23), a student and resident of Vijay Nagar Colony in Hyderabad. In, the accused joined the centre service sterilisation department and operation theatre technician Diploma course at MIMS College, Chandrayanagutta, Hyderabad. While pursuing the paramedical course itself on December 1, 2022, the accused joined as an operation theatre technician at Humanity Hospital.
The sub inspector said that while working as an operation theatre technician the accused acquired the knowledge about the Mephentermine sulphate injections and planned to commit theft of the injections from the hospital without the knowledge of the hospital management and sold them to drug-addicted persons to earn money illegally.
Shiva Kumar said that as part of his plan, the accused used to raise the order of medicine and other surgical, whatever required for the surgery, in addition to that deceitfully accused used to procure the Mephentermine sulphate injections by prescribing more than the requirement from the hospital. After procuring the injections, he sold them to drug-addicted persons at a high price of between Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 each vial, he added.
The accused sold the injections to 10-12 known people. The injections were initially used as emergency medicine during the time of surgery and for cardiac problems. The over dosage of Mephentermine sulphate injection causes side effects like cerebral haemorrhage, hypertension, increased blood pressure, insomnia, drowsiness and anxiety etc, the Shiva Kumar said.
