Parliament to repeal, replace IPC, CrPC, Evidence Act by year-end: Amit Shah
A new criminal justice system will start. The new justice system is not just to protect the rule but it was created to protect the people's rights. The basic change will help you to implement these laws in letter and spirit, Amit Shah said.
HYDERABAD: Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that three new bills relacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Evidence Act will be passed by Parliament soon.
Addressing the passing out parade of the 75RR batch at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad on Friday, the Home Minister said that the country would soon dispense with the laws made during the British Rule.
“Three new bills were put before the Loksabha. Soon they will become law. A new criminal justice system will start. This will be a huge change. The new justice system is not just to protect the rule but it was created to protect the people's rights. The basic change will help you to implement these laws in letter and spirit,” he said.
He called upon the officers who graduated from the prestigious academy that they must acquire skills to tackle terrorism organised crime, international mafia, digitized systems of filing FIRs by adopting ‘predictive and proactive policing’. He said that police officers must be humane while dealing with the poor and the meek.
“The 75RR batch is lucky as you will be leading the police forces somewhere in the country in the 100th year of independence, at a time the country will be leading the world. You will have a chance to implement constitutional rights and ensure that all are protected,” he said adding that Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel gave IPS to keep the nation united.
Calling the 75 RR batch as a techno batch as most of the officers had a technology background, he said that the Prime Minister had launched the Police Technology Mission, to make the Indian Police as top police force in the world technically.
“First time a woman Cadet Ranjita Sharma won the Sword of Honour, signaling the changing times. PM Narendra Modi envisages women-led development. Under that we brought women's reservation bill,” Amit Shah said.
Calling upon the officers that challenges don’t end with the end of extremism, Amit Shah said that there would be new challenges that they need to fight. He said that the three traditional hotbeds such as Jammu and Kashmir, Maoist extremism and the North-East were under control with the zero-tolerance policy implemented by the Modi Government. “Now onwards you must implement zero-tolerance strategy and zero-tolerance action,” the Home Minister said.
He said that the police force would now implement the one data one entry system where IT-enabled data and networking would make policing efficient and effective. ‘More than 16,400 police stations are CCTNS computerised, under E courts 22,000 courts are attached, 2 crore prisoners data was collected and under e-prosecution 1 crore case data was collected,” he informed the parade. Earlier, Amit Shah reviewed the passing out parade of the 75 RR batch of Indian Police Service probationers. A total of 175 officer trainees, including 155 IPS officer trainees and 20 officer trainees from Bhutan, Maldives Mauritius and Nepal, took part. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Director SVPNPA Amit Garg were also present.
